Airtel is a leading global telecommunications company with operations in 19 countries across Asia and Africa.

The company is owned by the Bharti Airtel Limited
In Nigeria, before now, Airtel Nigeria have been absorbed by many companies which leads to the continuous change of the brand.

Initially it was owned by Econet Wireless Nigeria in 2001,

In 2003, after a series of decisions taken by the Nigerian members of the company the name was change to VMobile.

In 2006 Celtel bought the company from VMobile and later acquired by and became a subsidiary of Zain (formerly the Mobile Telecommunications Company).

On 8, June 2010 the company was purchased by Bharti Airtel from Zain. On 22 November 2010, it was rebranded as 'airtel'.

As at march 2014, Airtel Nigeria has over 25 million subscribers and also being the top gainer in the Mobile Number Portability(MNP).

The company's product offerings include 2G, 3G and 4G services, fixed line, high speed broadband through DSL, IPTV, DTH, enterprise services including national & international long distance services to carriers. In the rest of the geographies, it offers 2G, 3G mobile services.
