Mobile Number Portability


As the telecommunication companies rivalry increases, each companies introducing different products and services inorder to gain more subscribers to their sides.

On the 22nd April 2013, the Nigeria Communication Commission (NCC) implemented Mobile Number Portability Scheme across the Nigeria Telecommunication sector and this as bring more Y’s to their rivalry.

The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) is the ability of a mobile Phone user to change from one mobile network operator to another while still retaining the mobile phone number, including the operator prefix code of the former network.

This scheme brings about;
  1. Better service delivery in the telecommunication industry.
  2. Mobile phone user will be able to retain their mobile number even if they port to another network operator.
  3. Mobile phone user will have the opportunity to experience all the network operator services.
  4. No charges require which give the mobile phone user an option over the network operators.

Terms:

Recipient: This is the new mobile network operator you want to port to.
Donor: This is the user current mobile network operator.
Number Portability Request (NPR): This is to be sent to the donor before porting can be proceeded. This process is known as Recipient-Led Porting.
Port out: This means leaving a mobile network operator for another e.g. porting out from kingTelcom
Port in: This means subscribing to a new network and still retains the phone number e.g. porting in to JTel
