Nigerian player, Michael Moses won Etisalat Sponsored Governor’s Cup 2014

History was made on the court last weekend at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club when Nigerian player, Moses Michael came from behind to defeat Uganda’s Duncan Mugabe, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2; making him the first Nigerian player to win the title since the start of the tournament.

Etisalat’s Director of PMO and Operational Strategy, Ndidi Okpaluba, described this win as a proof of the abundance of talent in Nigeria especially in the area of sports.

“We have been treated to a week of thrilling tennis served up by some very talented players and we, at Etisalat, believe there are more opportunities to groom upcoming talents. We are commitment to partnering with initiatives like the Governor’s Cup Tennis tournament in identifying and nurturing future talents. We believe that this partnership will help more tennis talents evolve from Nigeria”, she said.

She added, “Etisalat is not only involved in the provision of world-class telecommunication services. We also contribute to the development of the society by adding value to our operating environment. Our support of the Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis tournament is just one example of this."

Executive Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Raji Fashola, who declared the tournament closed, showered praises on the players, sponsors and organizers for making this year’s edition a reality. Meanwhile, Zarah Razafinmahatratra from Madagascar defeated Sarah Adegoke, 6-0, 6-1 in the Women’s Singles final.
